Fort of Providence Rhode Island Charms

January 06, 2010 | fitzcharming | Comments 0

Fort of Providence Rhode Island Hallmark I've seen these vintage shield charms for years and always wondered what company manufactured them.  They are souvenir colored shields set in a sterling silver frame.  The mark on the back reads sterling and has a Trojan Soldier looking guy with a spear, and an armor shield with an E on it.  I know there are other shapes with the same hallmark but I've seen mostly shields.  So I did a little internet research, actually very little because I found almost nothing.  The mark is that of the Fort of Providence Rhode Island Company. The only thing I could come up with is that the company was owned by Samuel and Lena Forte and in 1958 the factory address was 536 Atwells Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island.  If anybody knows anything else I'd appreciate some assistance with my research.  Otherwise I may have to take a trip to Providence to do some investigative reporting.  Wouldn't it be nice to travel around researching vintage jewelry?      ;-)
