Steps To Make Easy Altered Art Charm Bracelets
There are as many ways to make altered art charms as there are people who make them. There is no right or wrong in creativity. It’s a process of taking items that are thought to be worthless or worn out and giving them new life as a token on a charm bracelet. It takes no special skill or talent, although you don’t have to look long to find exceptional artists making altered art charms with advanced techniques.
Perhaps the easiest method is just to take apart old jewelry and reassemble by attaching the pieces to a charm bracelet. Broken earrings or necklace beads will already have a loop that a jump ring can fit through. Add some other items with a hole that a wire can be wrapped through like old watch hands, buttons, a tiny compass, Monopoly game pieces, skeleton keys, or any other small object that can easily be retrofitted onto a bracelet.
Look for old items in jewelry boxes, craft baskets, even the garage can be a source of inspiration. I found some tiny gears that polished up nicely and were easy to hang from charm bracelet links. Start with a simple design using simple parts to gain confidence and then try more innovative techniques.
Once you’ve made a bracelet or two you’ll begin looking at small objects with a new perspective.
