July Birthstones – Ruby
For those born in July, your birthstone is a ruby, which is one of the world’s most prized gemstones. A ruby is also given to commemorate a 40th anniversary, and the deep red color represents everlasting love. It is one of the hardest stones with a measure of 9 out of 10 on the Moh’s scale.
June Birthstones – Pearl
The traditional birthstone is Alexandrite but I’m not a fan so I chose to feature the modern June birthstone, which is a pearl. Pearls are formed of course when a tiny grain of sand or mineral gets into an oyster. The oyster responds by secreting a substance called nacre, which layers on until the pearl is created.
May Birthstones – Emerald
The beautiful green emerald is a traditional birthstone for the month of May. Appropriately so with green being the color of springtime and nature. Emeralds are a form of the mineral beryl which is durable and rare making it a favorite to use in jewelry.

February’s birthstone, the amethyst, is a form of quartz, which varies in color from pale lilac to dark purple. January Birthstones – Garnet
Anyone born in January knows their birthstone is a warm deep red garnet. My first thoughts are of Bohemian garnets found in antique jewelry from the late 19th century. What most don’t realize is that garnets are found in almost all colors except blue.
November Birthstones – Topaz
There are three traditional birthstones representing the month of November, smoky quartz, citrine, and orange topaz. I have a November birthday and When I was growing up the topaz was considered the November birthstone and it’s still my favorite.
