Antonio Pineda Mexican Silver Jewelry Designer
Antonio Pineda was a Taxco Mexico native who began an apprenticeship at Taller de Las Delicias, run by William Spratling when he was just 14 years old. After eight years of learning silversmith arts he opened his own shop and began creating his own original designs. Pineda created jewelry from the 1930s until the 1970s and is considered a national treasure.

Pineda became well known in California after an exhibition in 1944, where his silver jewelry was shown alongside Georg Jensen. A prominent San Francisco jeweler purchased Pineda's entire exhibit and continued to buy from Pineda for the next 10 years. His work caught the attention of famous Hollywood stars such as Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, as well as politicians and dignitaries from around the world.

About Antonio Pineda Jewelry
His Award Winning Mexican Silver Jewelry
Antonio Pineda's silver jewelry designs are known for being large and bold but not overly ornate. He used cut stones in unique settings that often had a free or floating look. He incorporated joints and clasps of his own design that allowed the jewelry to drape the wearer’s arm or body elegantly, despite the weighty form of the piece.
In 1953 and 1959 Pineda won the Presidential Prize for his work founding the Feries de la Plata (Silver fairs) of Taxco. He also helped to establish the Taxco Silver Museum and the Taxco School of Silver Design. The town is still a destination for silver jewelry collectors, although most of Pineda’s jewelry is in private collections and museums now.
