Hector Aguilar Mexican Silver Jewelry
Silver Masters of Mexico, Hector Aguilar and the Taller Borda
The Silver Masters of Mexico book features Mexican jewelry designers and artists including Hector Aguilar, Valentin Vidaurreta, Los Castillio, Antonio Pineda, William Spratling, and more. Features almost 500 color photos of Mexican Silver Jewelry designs.
Like many of the notable Taxco Mexico silver artisans, Hector Aguilar began his career at William Spratling's Taller de las Delicias. In 1939 he was able to open his own silver shop which he named Taller Borda. In 1943, with metal shortages in the United States because of World War II, Aguilar contracted with the Coro Jewelry Company and the arrangement continued until 1950. Taller Borda operated successfully until its closure in 1966.
Hector Aguilar followed the lead of William Spratling and used pre-Columbian forms as the basis of his silver jewelry. His creations were bold and simple in design. Aguilar incorporated semi-precious stones into many of his pieces and today his works are some of the most collectible and sought after Mexican jewelry art available.
