Snapeez® Magic Charm Bracelet Jump Rings – Are They Secure?

Snapeez Magic Jump Rings

I get this question all the time from my ebay customers.  And I always respond with the same truthful answer.  "It depends".  I want to stress that there is no way to be absolutely sure beyond any question that a charm won't come off your bracelet should you bang or snag it just the right way.

Having said that, the most secure way to attach charms to a charm bracelet is, of course, jeweler soldering.  A reputable jeweler that is knowledgeable about dealing with vintage charm bracelets will charge about $5 for a silver solder and $10 for gold.  I still use this method for all my expensive gold bracelets.  It's important to place them exactly the way you want on the bracelet though because it's a permanent bond unless the ring is cut open, in which case it will need to be re-soldered or replaced.

The Snapeez® magic jump rings that I sell are, in my opinion, the next best thing.  I have used them for years and never once lost a charm.  And I know many other charm collectors, and happy customers, that swear by them.  They have a little ridge on the edges of the connecting ends of the ring that "snap" into place when brushed together just right.  They are very easy to use, and inexpensive to replace should you decide to rearrange charms or swap them out to another bracelet.  This is something charm collectors do regularly by the way.  I've even been able to reuse them sometimes when I place a charm on another link.

Snapeez® jump rings are much more reliable than ordinary jump rings because of the bond they develop when snapped into place.  And then of course I give my disclaimer when answering my email inquiries, "I believe that if you catch a charm and twist it just the right way, with just the right amount of force, these would of course come unhooked.  It is not a permanent bond."   I think it would have to be a hard "twist", and not just an ordinary pull to unhook them though.  So no, these are not as secure as soldering.  But they are an affordable and reliable substitute for everyday wear.  I use them all the time and so do lots of my friends.  They're an excellent method of attaching moderately valued charms to your masterpiece creations.  So give them a try and good luck charm collecting.

Excellent article and comments. Wanda you say you have reused them.. did you find a differnce the second time around in their strength?

If I don’t bend them out of shape too badly when unhooking them the first time and I decide to use them again, then yes they are just as reliable when used a second time. Thanks for your comment.
