A while back I wrote about record prices that were fetched at auction for pink diamonds. Well the diamond color of the day now is daffodil yellow. And yellow is my favorite color so the story caught my eye right away.  Tuesday a 110.03 carat yellow diamond, known as the Sun-Drop Diamond sold for $10.9 million, not including taxes and auction fees, at Sotheby's auction in Geneva.

The Sun-Drop Diamond is a pear shaped fancy vivid yellow, which is the highest color grading given by gemologists. It’s the largest yellow diamond in the world and was mined in South Africa last year. Because it’s new and has no history of wearers, the diamond has never been officially named so the new owner gets the honor.

I think I’m starting to like colored diamonds more and more all the time. If you’re wishing for your own yellow diamond for the holidays this year, here are some more affordable specimens for us normal people for sale on eBay.
