Vintage Wells Enamel State Map Charms
One of my collections that is in progress is a set of United States map charms made by Wells Sterling. They are various enamel colors on the front and have the state slogan on the back. I have about a dozen left to collect and then I'll find the perfect bracelet to hang them from. Most of them are hallmarked Wells Sterling on the back but a few have a little top hat symbol for the Wells Top Hat company that distributed them in the mid 1900s. There isn't a charm to represent Hawaii or Alaska because they were not states at the time these were made. I was drawn to these because like I've said many times I'm crazy about enamel charms. Once I complete the set I'll post the whole collection on a bracelet.

These charms are absolutely amazing! I just saw these on “the travel bracelet” in the book “Charmed Bracelets” by Tracey Zabar. I’m sure you’ve seen it. I had no idea the state slogans were on the back. Wow, what a wonderful collection!

I am searching for an enameled Ohio map charm and was wondering if you could tell me where you found yours. Years ago, my step-mom sold her charms to pay for a family member’s Christmas present. They were very special to her, so I want to see if I can find the Ohio charm (our state) to give to her as a gift. I’ve searched on eBay etc, but none of the charms have the state slogan on the back. The most authentic-seeming one I’ve found has a Sterling mark on the back. It would be a great if you could help me out. Thanks

That bracelet is beautiful. I am on my way to complete mine. I think I am short by 14 states. My mother calls mine “Map Quest.”
I am looking for wells enamel state charms for Louisiana, Oklahoma and Alabama. My hushband made a wooden map of the United States and I am trying to fill in all the states we have been in. Thank You

Have you noticed there is no slogan on the back of Nebraska? Does Nebraska not have a state slogan? Any other charms without a slogan on the back??/
Does Nevada have a motto on the back of their charm???
I’m not sure, Nevada is one I have been searching for to complete my collection. I looked on the web and “All For Our Country” is the state motto so maybe that’s what is on the charm.
Is there a motto on the back of the Utah charm? I may have found a Wells charm but it doesn’t have a motto on the back (I think Utah is Beehive State). I am still looking for West Virginia, South Carolina and Idaho if anyone has seen a Wells version anywhere for sale.

Update. I have found them all but Idaho. I can’t even find an image for it. Has anyone actually seen a photo or a catalog page with it?
I’ve looked through all of mine and I don’t have it either. I know it reads “Gem State” on the back. Sorry I’m no help. But wow I’m glad you have all the others. I still need around 15.
